Maher bin Hamad bin Muaiqil Al-Muaiqli Al-Balawi, was born in Medina in 1969 to a Saudi father and a Pakistani mother. He graduated from Teachers College and worked as a mathematics teacher, then obtained a master’s degree in the jurisprudence of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal from the Sharia College in Umm Al-Qura.
He assumed the leadership of worshipers in the Prophet’s Mosque in 1426, then he was appointed official imam of the Grand Mosque in 1428.
