The player's goal is to get the lowest score by forming "punk" (three or four cards of the same rank) and "straight" (three or more cards in a row of the same suit).
1. **Deal:**
- When playing with 2-4 players, each player is dealt 10 cards; when playing with 5-6 players, each player is dealt 7 cards.
- The remaining cards are placed in the center of the table, face down, forming the draw pile.
- A card is turned over next to the draw pile, face up, forming the discard pile.

2. **Turning:**
- The game proceeds clockwise.
- Players can choose to draw a card from the draw pile or the discard pile.
- Players choose a card from their hand to discard to the discard pile.

3. **Building:**
- Players can build punks or straights during their turn.
- Players can show their rule-compliant cards during their turn or keep them in hand to hide their strategy.

4. **Winning:**
- A round ends when a player has played all of his cards or has no cards left to draw.
- Players add up the remaining cards that do not form a peg or straight, and count the points based on the number on the card (J, Q, K are 10 points each, and A counts as 1 point).
- Usually the lower number wins, or the opposite may be required depending on the variant.
