Only real complaints are that there is no control/indication for how direct messages are encrypted and that trace route fail without any feedback at all. Otherwise it ticks most of the boxes for functionality. I guess the settings/config menus could be better, but that's a matter of preference. I think it might be better to hide a lot of the things no one should be using behind an "advanced" interface maybe. And hints/help about what some of these settings do would be useful too.
Meshtastic is an excellent project and this app is great, 4/5. The only improvement I'd like is perhaps an admin view and a simpler chat only view to be able to set up a network and hand it over to family and friends easier but still have an option to open a settings admin page. This might also help UI with stand alone devices like Tdeck. End users mostly need a chat window akin to a messaging app, but I love the project and will be looking to setup a backup comms network.
As an experimenter, I really like this app. There's certainly some room improvement like successful messages reporting back as failed and trace-route still hit and miss also it seems like location is only available when generally and universally enabled instead of "only while using app". Still all these are just improvements I would like but overall it is a very fun and useful app. Meshtastic LoRa continues to surprise me, I've made numerous contacts over 20 miles with the little 2" antenna!
